I find it curious that media reports on the BC-Alberta spat regarding the Northern Gateway pipeline project make no reference to the comparable energy transmission spat a couple of years ago between the provinces of Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador concerning the transmission of electrical energy from the further development of the Lower Churchill Falls. At that time Quebec refused to allow export through its territory of this additional energy except under favourable financial terms to Quebec. Which media or government body objected to Quebec�s right to do so at that time? So why now the objections to BC�s position?

            The resolution of the Lower Churchill Falls project was a �bypass Quebec� alternative. The energy will be transmitted undersea to Newfoundland and then on to Nova Scotia, from where a substantial portion of it can be exported to the USA. In a legitimately analogous fashion Alberta can either negotiate and strike a deal with BC or find a �bypass BC� alternative.
