Tales of Woe
Dear Editor: Itís an alarming dilemma, families, wills and vultures. The worst thing is it happens in the dark shadows and when people are alone and at their most vulnerable, but at what point does an unscrupulous person move in to change a will? Yes itís unthinkable, yet the stories are endless. A comatose gentlemanís signature appears on a last will and testament two days before he dies. It was witnessed by his cousin. An elderly auntís signature appears on a will a week after sheís admitted into a hospice for the dying, sure sheís topped up on morphine, but who else is going to know that? An elderly lady tells her grand-daughter her son had her sign a new will leaving everything to him. An invalid patientís signature appears on a will 19 months after sheís diagnosed with Alzheimer's. The contents of these wills are devastating to family members, other than the newly appointed Executors who thrive on power and control and the cruel manipulation of assets. Is it possible to stop the packs of will vultures that circulate waiting to swoop on unsuspecting vulnerable elderly people?
