Letter to the Editor Sent to :
Dear Editor: The supreme court has ordered that the national anthem be played in movie halls before every show. A few years back the court had ordained that the windows of cars should not use tinted glasses . As a layman my understanding is that such orders should come from the executive wing of the government rather than the judiciary. However often with the executive abdicating its duties the judiciary has been more than willing to take upon itself the roles of the executive as well as the legislative wings. Babri Masjid case is a classic example. But why only in cinema halls ? It would make good sense to make the singing of the nationalanthem compulsory in Lokasabha, Rajyasabha, and legislative assembly of all state legislatures before the start of the days proceedings. And why not in all courts including the supreme court and all other lower courts ? Of course it should be sung in all government offices, schools, colleges, music concerts, Mumbai stock exchange, offices of RBI, banks and so on. That would make most of patriots. H.R. Prabhakara
