Letter to the Editor Sent to :
Dear Editor: Firstly I would like to feel privileged to live in secular India where the right to choose any religion is given to the citizens as to choose any religion or no is an individual's right, but the execution seems to lack behind when documentation takes place there are still many institutions and government offices that doesn't have atheism as a religion, Being a strong atheist I feel the provision of not favouring any religion should be given officially, Secondly, Recognition in society is the biggest problem in India as an atheist is not provided with any public holidays unlike religious holidays. What if a person does not require a holiday and wants to work despite of religious public holiday, the extra hours of work should be compensated by allowances or paid leave even in the public sector, government or in that case even private schools provide holiday on the name of religion, on the other hand students are forced to pray joining their hands be it praying hindu gods or allah or jesus but not praying it not allowed to a student, if the student refuse to join hands and pray then punishment is given just for following his/her religion of "non-believer" such implementations should be provided for the so called smallest minority group of the country which comprises of 0.9 % of the population which also includes other religions i.e. tribal communities as there is no specific description for atheism as a religion in the census. Third and last point is asking for no holiday on the name of religion that we don't follow or believe in. India has many religious holidays every year which has made the mentality of a middle class worker full of leisure and to have a relaxed life and have religious holidays every month excluding holidays and half working days on weekends so the additional holiday should be cut off and atheists should not be forced to have a leave from the work for a religion they do not follow. Instead an atheist should be provided with a wish to continue working even on the days of holiday which will result in more productivity and development of the nation, even if 2% of the people contributes to this extra day of work it is only going to have a positive impact, a win-win situation for the country's progress.
